Jerry Cantrell's Beloved "Blue Dress" Guitar Has Been Stolen

Jerry Cantrell’s G&L Rampage “Blue Dress” electric guitar has been stolen, and the Alice in Chains singer-guitarist is offering a reward for its return.

The original 1984 instrument is one of the most recognizable axes in Cantrell’s collection due to its many vibrant stickers, and he could often be seen playing it onstage with Alice in Chains.

The guitar (serial number “G016467”) was apparently stolen from Cantrell’s car in either Los Angeles or San Bernardino/Highland in California, according to a post on Cantrell’s Facebook. It was in a black G&L gig bag at the time.

“If you have seen the guitar or have any information regarding its whereabouts, please contact [email protected] immediately,” reads the post. “We’re offering a reward to anyone who can help us locate the guitar. We sincerely appreciate your help.”

The guitar was recently put on display at the Seattle MoPOP Museum, where Cantrell discussed its importance to his musical legacy and recording output.

“I bought that in 1985,” Cantrell said (via Blabbermouth). “That guitar has been on everything I’ve ever recorded, pretty much — 98.9% of every song, that guitar’s on there somewhere. I tried for decades to wreck it and it still exists. I’ve surfed it across the stage, jumped in the audience with it, fans running up and getting their hair caught in the keys…”

Here’s hoping the guitar makes it way back to Jerry in time for his upcoming solo tour supporting Bush. Dates kick off in late July (get tickets here).
