Ed Sheeran’s ‘Sapphire’ music video is a radiant love anthem that crosses cultures and borders, featuring captivating vocals from Indian music icon Arijit Singh.
Ed Sheeran returns to the dancefloor with his brand new single ‘Sapphire’. It is a vibrant track full of energy and emotion. The song blends upbeat dance rhythms with traditional Indian percussion, creating a sound that feels both rooted and fresh. It is all tied together by Sheeran’s signature knack for writing melodies that stick in your head after the first time you have listened to them. Lyrically, the artist sings about getting lost in the moment with someone special, and the song embodies that feeling perfectly. The blue diamond in the title becomes a symbol of that feeling – rare, glowing, and butterflies in your stomach.
“We are surrounded but I can only see / The lights, your face, your eyes / Exploding like fireworks in the sky,” Sheeran sings. The words are simple and authentic, but the feelings behind them run deep. It is about those moments when the world fades away and all that matters is the person right in front of you.
The track also features Arijit Singh, one of India’s biggest musical stars. He adds his vocals and plays the sitar that gives the song an even richer texture. Singh also joins the four-time Grammy winner in the official ‘Sapphire’ music video. Shot across different parts of India during Sheeran’s recent India tour. The entire video is full of spirited color and movement. It shows Sheeran walking through the crowded markets, strolling along beaches, visiting local landmarks, and singing with young Indian football players. Singh appears alongside him, adding a much-needed warmth and charm.
‘Sapphire’ captures joy and rhythms alongside a shared sense of wonder. It is a cross-cultural celebration led by two artists who know how to turn feelings into music. The song blends Indian percussion with his signature pop style. Produced by Ilya Salmanzadeh, Johnny McDaid, and SavanKotecha, the song feels both intimate and grand. The music video furthermore adds depth to this cultural celebration, finding Ed Sheeran exploring the streets of India.
Directed by Liam Pethick, the ‘Sapphire’ music video features Arijit Singh and a very surprising cameo from Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan. It opens with Sheeran singing at dawn on a rooftop, then follows him on a colorful journey through the streets of India, from peaceful beaches and riversides to busy markets, local kitchens, and Bollywood sets. The music video captures vibrant moments that match the energy and heart of the track. Sheeran is often joined by Arijit Singh at these locations, singing together in Punjabi. One line, “ਚਮ-ਚਮਚਮਕੇਸਿਤਾਰੇਵਰਗੀ,” translates to “They sparkle just like stars,” as shown in YouTube’s captions.
Talking about this newly released track, Sheeran said, “Sapphire was the first song I finished for Play that made me know where the album was heading. It’s why I finished the recording process in Goa surrounded by some of the best musicians in India. It was an incredible creative process. I shot the music video with Liam and Nic across my India tour earlier this year, we wanted to showcase the beauty and breadth of the country and its culture. The final jigsaw piece for me was getting Arijit on the record. It was a journey to get there and such an amazing day of music and family. Me and him have done a full Punjabi version of the song that will come out in the next few weeks, which has a lot more of him on it. This is the album version of the song, and my favourite song on the album. Hope you guys love it.”
