Streamers in Japan have been having mysterious encounters with the “Dr. Pepper Guy”, a man in Japan who walks up to people just for the sole purpose of cracking open a cold Dr. Pepper and handing it to them.
The prominence of stream snipers has grown in the advent of IRL livestreaming on Twitch, with people documenting their adventures and streaming it for the world to see. Massive creators like IShowSpeed have made this their main form of content.
And, while this has resulted in people stalking and harassing streamers, it has also resulted in some fantastic and spontaneous on-stream moments.
With the trend of streamers heading to Japan and livestreaming while there, one man has emerged as a consistent source of chaos for several streamers: The Dr. Pepper Guy.
Who is the Dr. Pepper Guy?
The Dr. Pepper Guy is a stream sniper who shows up randomly to locations in which streamers are broadcasting, hands them a Dr. Pepper, and leaves. That’s about it.
Though he may interact a bit beyond that or add some theatrics to the way in which he delivers the beverage, he always leaves without a word and without fuss.
At first, streamers were confused. They weren’t sure what to make of him suddenly dropping in unannounced, but he’s since become a bit of a character. And he’s also gotten a lot better at tracking streamers down.
It’s at the point where he’s entering restaurants and finding the private booths of streamers, prying the door open, handing them a beverage, and leaving. Sometimes he’ll interact with a few different streamers at once, enjoying the Dr. Pepper with them before handing it off and leaving.
He’s been on a massive streak as of late, showing up on several streams and performing his theatrics in front of some of Twitch’s biggest creators like Mizkif and Tokyo Sims.
Are Dr. Pepper Guy encounters staged?
It isn’t clear whether or not Dr. Pepper Guy encounters are staged or not. The fact that he’s been able to find streamers in closed off booths or VIP sections of buildings he shouldn’t have access to means there’s a chance that the streamers are in on the bit.
However, he’s also been seen by a number of different streamers who have been visiting Japan, and he’s become such a regular character that people aren’t weirded out by him anymore despite his uncanny ability to track people down.
The Dr. Pepper Guy’s motivations are unclear beyond his love for the carbonated beverage.
