What happened to Laverne Cox and why did she leave the show?

For the past three years, Laverne has served as host of E!’s red carpet specials for the Oscars, Golden Globes, Emmys, and other awards shows. She announced her departure in an emotional Instagram post at the start of the year.

“With an incredible amount of gratitude I’ve decided not to return as host of #LiveFromE’s red carpet coverage. I’m so incredibly proud of the work we did over my three year tenure,” Laverne wrote in the post.

She continued, “I’d like to express my sincere thanks to everyone at @nbcuniversal, @eentertainment and @denofthievestv for your incredible support. These moments are a reminder to me of what an incredible privilege it has been to talk to some of the world’s greatest artists about their work, navigating the pressures of success, etc.”

Laverne also plugged her next project!

“I’m so excited to keep growing, evolving and exploring great opportunities as an actress, artist, host and speaker. I hope you’ll all continue to go with me on my evolving journey. Tune into my new comedy series Clean Slate premiering on Amazon Prime February 6,” she said.

Make sure to tune in for the Golden Globes at 8/7 on CBS. The show is hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser and honors the best in both movies and television.
