TikTok is buzzing with a viral trend based on the lyric “They say shooters shoot” from ‘ILBB2’ by Jorjiana featuring GloRilla. Here’s everything to know about it.
On February 21, Jorjiana dropped a remix of her song ‘ILBB2,’ featuring GloRilla. The remix included a music video on YouTube, which amassed over 2 million views.
GloRilla’s verse contains the lyric, “Uh, uh-huh, they say shooters shoot. Uh, uh-huh, Duke Dennis, what’s up with you?” In this context, the lyric refers to “shooting your shot” – taking a bold chance to pursue someone romantically.
Two days later, TikTok user pcybamm posted the first known meme using the lyric. In his video, he lip-synced to the line but replaced the name “Duke Dennis” with rapper “Latto.”
The video, which amassed over 5.9 million views, set the stage for a massive trend where TikTokers replaced “Duke Dennis” with the name of someone they admired or found attractive.
‘They say shooters shoot’ trend explained
The format is simple: TikTokers lip-sync to the lyrics while the text overlay substitutes “Duke Dennis” with another person’s name, typically a celebrity or popular influencer.
The trend’s humor often lies in the audacity of the “shot,” as many users tag people that are far out of their league.
As the viral challenge grew, it inspired millions of participants. On February 27, TikToker v0ntai took his shot at content creator avawavuh in his video, garnering an incredible 28.9 million views.
The next day, Tony Lopez tagged fellow popular TikToker Addison Rae in his clip, which gained more than 15 million views.
Others, like content creator Vexbolts, parodied the trend by saying their own names themselves instead, earning laughs and over 1.4 million views.
As of now, over 418.7K TikTok videos feature the sound, making ‘They say shooters shoot’ one of the platform’s most viral trends of 2025 so far.
It’s just one of the many trends currently thriving on TikTok, alongside the popular ‘Anxiety’ dance craze and the ‘Dating a GM’ meme.
