The ‘cookie-sharing challenge’ has taken TikTok by storm, showing how young children respond to the concept of sharing.
This viral cookie challenge offers a peek into family dynamics, while also delivering plenty of wholesome and hilarious moments, making it a staple on TikTok‘s For You Pages. Here’s everything you need to know about it.
TikTok’s cookie challenge explained
The premise is simple: a toddler sits between two parents, each with a covered plate in front of them. When the plates are unveiled, one parent has a single cookie, the child has two cookies, and the other parent has none.
The cookieless parent then expresses sadness at being left out, testing whether the child will share their extra treat.
The reactions vary widely. Some toddlers quickly recognize the opportunity to share and generously hand over their second cookie. Others, however, struggle to part with their extra dessert, much to the amusement of their parents and viewers.
While the origins of the challenge remain unclear, it began circulating on TikTok last year and saw a resurgence in March 2025. Several creators have garnered millions of views by participating.
In bigbsham’s post, which has 1.1 million views, his daughter immediately gave her second cookie to her mom, saying, “Don’t worry mommy, I can share with you,” prompting cheers and hugs.
TikToker hannahcook1229’s video, with over 37.4 million views, captured her son bursting into tears upon seeing his mom without a cookie before offering her one. “A true empath,” she captioned the clip.
Not all outcomes are as touching. In jessshdez22’s viral video, their son gleefully enjoyed his cookies while refusing to share, even taking one back after his mom placed it on his dad’s plate.
“We failed as parents,” the dad joked at the end of the clip, which amassed a whopping 76 million views and 8.4 million likes.
The trend’s hashtags have exploded with thousands of posts, as people can’t get enough of the mix of sweet and hilarious reactions. With millions of views and more families jumping in, the challenge keeps spreading joy and laughter all over TikTok.
It’s just one of the many trends popping off on TikTok in 2025, alongside the popular LeBron James glazing craze and the bizarre ‘Shoebody Bop’ meme.
