Too much makeup on your features could cause problems when going through security

A TRAVEL expert has revealed the number one TikTok trend travellers should avoid at the airport due to safety concerns.

Finding new ways to look good in your passport photo has been a thing for a while now, the expert claimed.

On TikTok users can find various makeup tutorial videos for the “perfect passport photos”.

However, in some cases, it can become a serious issue and may even result in you being denied boarding.

The travel expert explained that too much “glam” or makeup on your features could cause problems when going through security.

Airport officers are trained to compare your face to your passport photo and won’t hesitate to question or even refuse you if it doesn’t match.

Gavin Lapidus, travel consultant and founder of an online travel agent, said: “overly glamorous look could lead to delays if you’re not recognizable.”

He added: “Plus, passport photos with too much makeup might not be approved initially, causing delays in receiving your passport.”

To alleviate any stress, the travel expert recommends that travellers should try to look as natural as possible in their passport photo.

“Aim for a natural look that you can easily replicate on travel days,” he added.

It comes after this travel expert revealed why a much-loved packing hack could cause more problems for passengers at the airport.

The well-seasoned flyer explained why using popular vacuum-sealed bags could cause headaches for holiday goers.

‘Save for your next trip’ say Dublin Airport as they reveal terminals hack

Peter Greenberg, CBS travel editor, explained that while the sought-after bags are excellent for “saving space in your closet,” they’re far from ideal for airport security.

Security workers at airports have the right to check the contents inside your luggage if they suspect you’re carrying illegal items.

Peter said: “If they do that, they’re going to break that vacuum seal.”

This can cause your bag to inflate, potentially making it too large to meet the onboard carry-on requirements.

Airport security “is not in the packing business nor are they in the repacking business,” the travel expert added.

“Your bag may not make your flight and you may not see your bag for quite some time.”

When asked whether travellers can use vacuum-sealed bags if they desperately need to, Peter responded: “Do not pack them in your bags… if they open there, you will have a problem.”

What do I need to check on my passport?

There are two things you need to check on your passport before booking your holiday.

The first time is the start date.

New rules for Brits since Brexit no longer allow you to have a passport longer than 10 years old.

Previous rules let you roll over up to nine months from your last passport if you renew it early – that means some can have 10 years and nine months on them.

For example, if your passport start date is July 2012 but the expiry date says it was December 2022 that is wrong.

For Europe, the new expiry would actually be July 2022.

The second thing to check after this is how long is left on your passport.

European countries now require you to have at least three months left on your passport.

So if your passport expires in September 2022, the last date you could have travelled to Europe would have been June 2022.
