Streamer Asmongold blasts artists upset by AI art: “Focus on a career change”

Twitch star Asmongold believes artists will be searching for new jobs as AI art has spiked again with the Chat GPT-inspired Studio Ghibli trend.

Artificial Intelligence and outside tools have always played a role in content creation, be it through level design in gaming, or adding visual effects to your favorite movie and television series.

However, the increased use of AI in these mediums has been a hot topic in recent years. The use of AI has certainly ramped up when it comes to gaming, with fans constantly putting developers on blast for being lazy with their new content – typical weapon and character skins.

It has also spread further across social media too, with different AI trends taking over the likes of TikTok, Snapchat, and X. That has been the case with the Studio Ghibli art trend recently.

If you’ve not come across it yet, the new trend sees people take iconic photos and run them through Chat GPT, asking it to redo it in the Studio Ghibli style. It has caused outrage, though, especially with artists urging people to pick up a pen and try to recreate it themselves.

Well, streamer Asmongold has weighed in, hitting out at the artists. “There are going to be a lot of people who aren’t going to have jobs pretty soon,” he said watching a Studio Ghibli-style remake of Lord of the Rings.

“If you are an artist, this has been a really bad week for you and I wanna promise you that its going to get worse, ok?” he added. “If you’re an artist and this is upsetting you and you’re worried, this is only the beginning. There will be man-made horrors beyond the comprehension of the human mind. You don’t even know what it’s going to be like, right?

“I would focus on a career change. Go be a plumber or something like that.”

The trend has also prompted old quotes from Ghibli mastermind Hayao Miyazaki to resurface, as he called the technology an “an insult to life itself.”

ChatGPT boss Sam Altman has joked about the trend though, commenting: “one man’s slop is another man’s treasure.”
