Raven Symone stunned fans last week when she dropped the real pronunciation of her name. She is now following up letting fans know they can call her whatever!
Raven ‘Suh-Moan’ For Us
The actress was bombarded with messages reminding her that before she checks us on her name, she needs to go back to those Disney Channel commercials to see how she told us to pronounce her name.
“My name is Raven Suh-moan” one follower of the trend reminded the Raven’s House actress. Many others phonetically spelled out how Raven coached us on how to pronounce her name. seeing as so many people were triggered, Raven hopped online to address all the backlash and also get a little chuckle out of it.
Raven Symone Isn’t Sweating The Name Thing
Raven hopped on TikTok to shed a light on why she shared the tidbit and her shock at the conversation it ignited.
“Yo, people out here real mad that I never said ‘hey my name is Raven Sy-mon-ye and your watching Disney channel’. No I didn’t do that,” she admits. “At a very young age I was told to tell everybody my name is Raven Symone and it just never left my body,” she explains.
She made light of the situation as she continued on explaining she is only ever reminded of how her name is pronounced when she goes to “French-speaking countries” and remembers “it is spelt that way and that is how it should be pronounced.”
She turned the camera to the busy, bustling street of Los Angeles. “But coming here, to where I’m living, Raven Symone is just fine.” She confirmed for those ready to poke holes in her explanation.
“I don’t trip over it, I don’t correct people but the correct spelling of my name is pronounced Raven Sy-Mon-Ye, but, you can call me Raven Symone, I’m not tripping over it.”
Raven Sy-Mon-Ye Isn’t Wrong
Raven did receive a weird amount of backlash and jokes about her name but she isn’t wrong, there is an accent over the ‘e’ in the name Symone. This indicates to native French speakers and those learning the language that there is an emphasis on the letter and it should be heard at the end.
However, as Raven said, she isn’t concerned about it and just thought it would be a fun fact to share with her followers and fans.
Even after this, Raven’s fans still found something to joke about in her follow-up video. It was lighthearted and fun but entertaining nonetheless.
Raven Baxter Forever
Raven’s TikTok fans are still finding ways to joke about this whole name debacle. “Weird way of saying and spelling Baxter but that’s cool… lol,” pointed out a fan who made reference to her Disney Channel show, Raven’s House.
“No it’s Raven ✨Simon-ay✨ from here on out sis.. we got you 🥰,” claimed one fan willing to follow whatever lead the actress was presenting.
“Always referred to you as “ that’s so Raven “ anyway ! 😳😂,” noted another follower. For the most part, Raven’s fans were on board but as she said, she is happy with whatever pronunciation.
