People slam me as a ‘bad mum’ because of my showering habits – I might be ‘smelly’ and ‘minging’ but I’m a good parent

A mother has opened up on her showering habits, leaving social media users horrified

A WOMAN has revealed that she doesn’t shower everyday, leaving many open-mouthed.

The first-time mum explained that not only this, but she doesn’t have time to give her baby a bath every night either.

The mother, who is from Greater Manchester, took to social media to share her confession, but it’s left people totally divided.

The mother shared the clip with the caption ‘Am I minging? I thought this was normal’, and said: “Please tell me if you think this is disgusting, but I might have to delete the video.

“I’m just questioning my showering and bathing habits after a few videos I’ve seen.

“I’ve seen a lot of those ‘what I do as a mum’, ‘what I do as a first time mum’ videos and people are saying that they bathe their baby every night, which is great, love it.

“I don’t. I don’t have the time.

“But people say that they bathe their baby every night, because they bathe themselves everyday.

“I don’t bathe myself everyday.

“I wash and I wash Ivy everyday, but I don’t have a bath or a shower every single day.”

The mother explained that by wash, she means “bits n pits.”

She then added: “I thought that was quite common, but I’m starting to think it’s not and maybe I’m a bit minging.”

I got my baby’s ears pierced at three MONTHS & have strict rules – if you don’t meet my kids in the first six months of their life, you never will, even for family

In a follow-up clip, the mother explained: “One thing I’ll never be is mean – so the showering video – some of the comments on there…people insinuating I’m a bad mum or a bad person because I don’t shower everyday and I don’t shower Ivy everyday.

“Everyone’s entitled to an opinion, but some of the comments! I think people need to take a step back and try to be a kind person.”

The mother explained that she knows she is a good parent, so won’t listen to the haters, as she continued: “I’m not bothered, I’m happy. I’m me.

How often should you be showering?

A dermatologist has argued that we don’t need to shower everyday.

The sweet spot is actually around every two to three days, depending on your lifestyle.

Dr. Mary Stevenson, assistant professor of dermatology at NYU Langone Health in New York, US claimed that how often you shower should depend on a number of personal factors.

Because after all, personal hygiene is just that – personal.

These factors include your skin, age and activity level.

Dr Stevenson suggested “you should be showering, bathing or cleansing yourself every two to three days”.

However, if you’re a gym bunny working up a sweat everyday, then you should be hosing yourself down after each workout.

“I know I’m a good mum – Ivy’s loved, she’s cared for.

“Who cares if I don’t shower everyday?

“But there’s some really nasty people on there, so people might think I’m smelly, but at least I’m kind.”

BIG DIVIDE

The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @ivyandmama, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly amassed 94,800 views in just two days.

But social media users were massively divided by the mother’s claims – and many flocked to the comments to share their thoughts.

100% everyday. Anything else is rank

One person said: “Showering everyday is the norm, unless I’m really not well I’d never miss!”

Another added: “Our household bathes/showers everyday. I wish I didn’t because I absolutely hate doing it, I just feel unclean if I don’t.”

A third commented: “100% everyday. Anything else is rank.”

At the same time, someone else claimed: “Nope two to three times a week for kids and I’m every other day mostly which is about the same. Hair is once a week because it’s not good for your skin and I don’t have time to bathe every day.”

A second chimed in: “I have to stand with you and say I don’t shower everyday.”

Whilst one woman admitted: “Every second day for me! Showering every day is a more modern trend, as a child of the 70´s bath night was every Sunday, so only once a week!”

However, many social media users were horrified by the mother’s showering habits, and the nasty trolls were out in full force.

One keyboard warrior penned: “It’s called good hygiene!! Yes you’re definitely minging!! I bet your f***y hums.”

You need to start doing it every day!

Another user advised: “It is minging. You need to make time. A wash for a woman is not sufficient enough. Sorry but you need to start doing it every day!”

Someone else snapped: “You absolutely have time to bathe yourself and child everyday. To say you don’t is lazy.”

Meanwhile, one user questioned: “How do you not have the time?????”

To this, the mother explained: “Full time working, a little girl who tends to fall asleep after nursery in the car and sometimes goes straight to bed.

“Still learning to balance being a first time mum.”
