The nominations for The Ivors 2025, and Lola Young is leading the pack. The awards, which honor musicians for songwriting and screen composing, gave Young three nods. The musician’s song “Messy” was nominated for best song musically and lyrically, her album This Wasn’t Meant For You Anyway was nominated for best album, and Young herself was nominated for the rising star award. The winners ceremony will be held in London on Thursday, May 22.
“thank you so much for the three nominations,” Young wrote on her Instagram Story, tagging The Ivors account. “song writing is the most important thing in the world to me and I live n breathe music so thank you.” For “Messy,” Young was nominated alongside her cowriter Conor Dickinson. For the album This Wasn’t Meant For You Anyway, Dickinson and cowriters William Brown and Jared Solomon were also nominated.
Young has been having a banner year in the United States after a steady rise in her native United Kingdom. In late 2024, Young was featured on Tyler, The Creator’s album Chromakopia for the track “Like Him.” After her song “Messy” spawned a TikTok trend, the singer made a memorable appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and propelled the single all the way to number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100. “‘Messy’ is a song that seems to resonate because people can relate. It’s not every day, clean girl aesthetic,” Young said during an interview on the talk show. “Some days, you haven’t washed your socks, do you know what I mean?”
Young also has a packed schedule ahead of her this spring and summer, performing at the Lovin’ Life Music Fest this May in North Carolina and All Things Go in Maryland this August. The artist also has dates planned in Belgium, Germany, Denmark, Finland, Portugal, and the United Kingdom in the coming months. Earlier this year, Young was also nominated for Best Pop Act at the Brit Awards.
