Pickles are among the most polarizing foods around. People often absolutely love pickles or despise them and there’s not often much middle ground. So Jimmy John’s debuting a limited-edition ‘Picklewich’ sandwich that replaces bread with pickles is certainly going to rub some people the wrong way but dill lovers are going to be hyped for this.
Jimmy John’s announced the new Picklewich is available for tow of their most popular sandwiches, the The Vito® Picklewich and The Turkey Picklewich. The Italian Night Club and the Vito have always been my go-to orders at Jimmy John’s but never until now have I considered ‘what if this bread was replaced with pickles’ because JJ’s has the best bread!
I don’t care what people say about the Subway bread smelling good, Subway is a dumpster fire. And I’m a born and raised Floridian so obviously Publix has a soft spot in my heart but Jimmy John’s bread is better for sandwiches. Sorry, Publix.
According to the announcement, the Jimmy John’s Picklewich options will be available at “participating locations nationwide” from October 28th through November 14th, so there is plenty of time to find a picklewich if you can’t track down a Jimmy John’s on Monday.
For the announcement, Jimmy John’s brought in Snooki as the ‘Pickle Witch’ herself. The video is also available on Instagram but YouTube has a better full screen experience:
Jimmy John’s Picklewich Hype Is Real
People are excited for this. Already this morning three people have DM’d me this news. It has been picked up by every major media outlet in the US. In an era where the general public is tired of ‘stunts’ this one is certainly well received. The news has been trending on Google Trends all morning.
There is also precedent for this type of sandwich. Seven Brothers Gourmet in Long Island went viral at the start of the year for doing exactly this.
That proved to be so popular for the Seven Brothers Gourmet deli that the pickle sandwich has become a permanent fixture on the menu. Jimmy John’s, it seems, may be trying to replicate some of that viral fame.
What Jimmy John’s really has going for it here is the strength of their pickles. They are widely respected as having some of the best pickles in the game. If Firehouse Subs or Subway tried to pull this off it would be laughable. But JJ’s pickles will stand up to the test.
