Pixies' New Song "Oyster Beds" Inspired by Black Francis' Paintings

Pixies have released a new song called “Oyster Beds,” which serves as the latest preview of their upcoming album, The Night the Zombies Came. Stream it below.

Featuring crunchy guitar riffs, “Oyster Beds” takes inspiration from frontman Black Francis’ return to painting as a way to find focus while recording the album at Rockfield Studios in Wales. In a statement, he said the lyrics are “a laundry list of things I was painting over the last couple years.”

Indeed, “Oyster Beds” sees Black Francis quite literally describing his art. “I painted heads and lots of reds/ And pools of black in oyster beds,” he sings. “A faithful spouse with open blouse/ A paganeer cum-sacred cow.”

The Night the Zombies Came also includes the previous singles “Chicken” and “You’re So Impatient.” The album is available for pre-order on vinyl and CD ahead of its release on October 25th.

Meanwhile, Black Francis, aka Frank Black, has booked a 2025 North American tour celebrating the 30th anniversary of his sophomore solo alum, Teenager of the YearTickets are available here.
