The revamped Pantera embarked on the band’s first North American headlining tour in 22 years on Friday, July 28th, in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania.
Notably, the encore consisted of the Far Beyond Driven cuts “Slaughtered” and “Revolution Is My Name,” the first time either song had been played live by Pantera since 2001.
The rest of the setlist included many of the Pantera staples and album cuts the group has been playing during its previous one-off festival performances and overseas dates.
“A New Level” from Vulgar Display of Power opened the set, and from there Philip Anselmo and company played classics such as “Mouth for War,” “I’m Broken, “5 Minutes Alone,” and their cover of Black Sabbath’s “Planet Caravan,” among others. Anselmo and the audience then broke into a chorus of “Happy Birthday” for bassist Rex Brown, who turned 59 the day before.
The band — which features classic members Anselmo and Brown alongside guitarist Zakk Wylde and Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante — finished the core portion of the set with a flurry of favorites, unleashing “Walk, a medley of “Domination” and “Hollow,” and “Cowboys from Hell,” all in sequence.
Pantera’s North American tour features special guests Lamb of God, who played a 10-song set of their own. The outing continues Monday night (July 31st) in Milwaukee and runs through mid-September. Get tickets here.
