Neil Young & Stephen Stills Reunite at Charity Concert: Video, Setlist

Neil Young and Stephen Stills reunited at the 2024 Harvest Moon charity concert in Lake Hughes, California on Saturday (October 5th). During the benefit for the Painted Turtle Camp and the Bridge School, they teamed up for a 13-song set filled with their collaborations as members of Crosby, Stills, & Nash/Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young as well as Stills-Young Band and Buffalo Springfield.

The performance kicked off with Stills-Young Band’s “Long May You Run” and also included CSN’s “Helplessly Hoping” and CSNY’s “Helpless” alongside several Buffalo Springfield songs: “Hung Upside Down,” “For What It’s Worth,” and “Bluebird.”

Besides that, Stills accompanied Young for some of the latter’s classics, including “Harvest Moon,” “Heart of Gold,” and of course, “Rockin’ in the Free World,” when they were joined by John Mayer. See the fan-shot video and the full setlist below.

Both the Painted Turtle Camp and the Bridge School focus on providing access to education and experience to children in need, with the former providing a free camp for kids with serious medical conditions and the latter offering education to children with physical disabilities and severe speech impairments.

The event marked Young and Stills’ longest set together since Buffalo Springfield’s reunion tour in 2011, though they did team up at an autism awareness benefit last year. It followed news of Young canceling his “Love Earth” summer tour with Crazy Horse, which he later attributed to listening to his body.

Young has been on a reissue kick as of late: FreedomRagged Glory – Smell the HorseWeld, and Arc all returned to print on Friday, while a limited 50th anniversary edition of On the Beach will be available beginning on November 8th. Revisit our classic review of Neil Young’s “Ditch Trilogy.”

Meanwhile, their CSNY bandmate, Graham Nash, recently appeared on The Story Behind the Song to discuss “Teach Your Children” and “Ohio,” along with the group’s new archival release, Live at Fillmore, East 1969.
