Mushroomhead have announced their new album, Call the Devil, arriving August 9th, and offered up the lead single “Fall in Line.”
The nu-metal band’s ninth studio album is set to drop prior to its previously announced Fall 2024 US tour (get tickets here), which kicks off October 4th in Buffalo, New York.
The shows promise to be heavy on fresh material, with “Fall in Line” being the first taste of the new LP. The track is a pummeling barrage of industrial metal that rains a constant torrent of drums and heavily affected guitar riffs. The sheer amount of layers and sounds verges on psychedelia.
“‘Fall In Line’ was actually the last song we recorded for the LP,” remarked Mushroomhead mastermind Steve “Skinny” Felton via a press announcement. “It came together really fast. Upbeat, aggressive, and fun.”
Call the Devil was produced by Felton and mixed by Matt Wallace, who handled that task on the band’s acclaimed 2003 album XIII. The new record also sees the return of Steve’s brother and longtime Mushroomhead guitarist Dave “Gravy” Felton after a 12-year hiatus, with the latter contributing to two songs.
As for the album title, Mushroomhead gave a subtle nod to heavy metal forerunners Mötley Crüe.
“We played around with a few different album titles,” Steve said, “and apparently Shout at the Devil was already taken.”
