Ms. Lauryn Hill has postponed the bulk of the remaining dates on her 2023 tour celebrating the 25th anniversary of her debut album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, due to vocal strain.
Hill announced the postponement on social media, explaining that she has been “battling serious vocal strain for the past month.” To recover, Hill will reschedule her remaining 2023 dates to early 2024 — except for her November 25th concert in Philadelphia, which has already been moved once. Though Hill didn’t give any specific dates, she did say the rescheduled concerts would include some additional cities and overseas shows.
The North American leg of “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill 25th Anniversary Tour” kicked off on October 17th in Newark, New Jersey, with Hill’s reunited group Fugees serving as co-headliners. Just a few dates in, Hill had to postpone a scheduled October 23rd show in Philadelphia and another on October 30th in Fort Worth, Texas. In both cases, she cited vocal chord issues.
“As many of you may know, I’ve been battling serious vocal strain for the past month,” Hill wrote in her latest statement. “I made it through each show by taking prescribed prednisone, but this can be detrimental to the body when taken in large amounts over long periods of time. In order to prevent any long term negative affect on my voice and my body, I need to take time off to allow for real vocal recovery so that I can discontinue the medication completely.”
