Megan Thee Stallion has shared a remix of her new song “Cobra” featuring Canadian progressive metal band Spiritbox.
The Houston rapper dropped “Cobra” to widespread acclaim last week, and now she’s doubled-down with “Cobra (Rock Remix)” — a full-blown rap-rock/nu-metal re-imagining of the track.
Building off the shred guitar solo featured in the original song, Spiritbox bring their highly technical brand of metalcore to the table, embedding their riffs under Megan’s incendiary flow. Meanwhile, singer Courtney LaPlante delivers a melodic chorus, along with some of her signature screams.
Inevitably, the combo renders a futuristic take on the alternative rap metal that dominated the radio just over two decades ago, and the crossover appeal will certainly draw in new listeners for both artists. Here’s hoping the remix will lead to similar cross-genre collaborations with heavy bands.
Spiritbox are also fresh off a new release, having dropped The Fear of Fear EP last Friday (November 3rd). The group continues to work at a breakneck pace, having released either an LP or EP in each of the past three years — this following a steady flow of singles from 2018 through 2021.
