Iron Lung’s New Album and Single “Lifeless Life”: Stream

Iron Lung have announced their first full-length album in 12 years, Adapting // Crawling, out April 18th via the band’s own Iron Lung Records.

The single “Lifeless Life” has also been released. The 52-second track is a bleak and short-winded blast of hardcore, juggling anxious bouts of thrash with instrumental dropouts. It’s in these gaps where the duo inserts the vocal refrain, shouted from the perspective of someone trapped in a windowless hospital room: “We want out!”

The rest of the 18-song album follows similarly weighty themes — “depression, a failed healthcare system, heavy grief from multiple friends/family deaths, paranoia and distrust of government, meaningless existence and loss,” per the band’s press release. While it marks the first proper LP from Iron Lung since 2013, the duo of Jensen Ward (drums/vocals) and Jon Kortland (guitar/vocals) have remained active throughout those years, releasing three EPs in that span and a one-off single last year.

In tandem with the new album, Iron Lung are also presenting their own festival, What We Like fest, a three-day gathering set for April 18th through the 20th in Seattle. The lineup includes 26 bands, most associated with Iron Lung Records. More information can be found at this location.
