Green Day and Jimmy Fallon teamed up for an impromptu concert in a New York subway station, where they played “Basket Case,” “American Idiot,” and songs off their new album, Saviors.
In a video posted to the YouTube page of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Green Day and Fallon are seen donning wig-and-beard disguises before setting up shop underground. As a small crowd began to gather around the band (which, you really gotta wonder how many commuters see an obviously-wigged ensemble beneath 30 Rock and think “Gee, I guess Jimmy Fallon is doing something”), they broke into a somewhat-humorous cover of Bad Company’s “Feel Like Makin’ Love.”
Then, as the growing crowd seemed to be figuring out what was happening, Fallon tore off his disguise and properly introduced Green Day, who dove into an upbeat acoustic rendition of their classic hit, “Basket Case.” Watch the video of the reveal below.
After “Basket Case,” the group stuck around for a handful more songs, including “Dilemma” and “Look Ma, No Brains!” both off their new album, Saviors, which arrived in full today. Plus, they played “American Idiot.” You can check out a video of those three numbers below as well.
Green Day’s first full-length release since 2020, Saviors, arrived today, and is available on digital, CD, cassette, and vinyl formats, with orders ongoing. Up next, the band is set to take their live show on the road for a sprawling 2024 stadium tour with support from Smashing Pumpkins, Rancid, and The Linda Lindas.
