Final Album from Late Visionary Producer SOPHIE Announced

SOPHIE’s first and final posthumous album has been announced. Co-produced by the late pop visionary and Benny Long, SOPHIE is slated for release on September 27th via Transgressive and Future Classic, but lead single “Reason Why” featuring BC Kingdom and Kim Petras is out now.

“This album has always told the story of Sophie’s musical journey, a cacophony of skill and creative vision, eclipsing time and genre,” SOPHIE’s family said in a press statement. “Her unique sound world moves at an emotional level, encouraging the listener to intuitively embrace the ever-evolving landscape of light and dark, soft and hard, to the end of self-love and joyful self-acceptance. Emphasizing contradictions of sound and material, Sophie’s work supersedes the pure aural to create the dimension she dreamed of.”

With joyous, buoyant production, “Reason Why” encourages listeners to live their truth as Petras sings, “It’s my life, I’m doing what I want/ Ain’t nobody gonna tell me none.” Stream it below.

SOPHIE tragically died in an accidental fall at the age of 34 in January 2021. Her lone studio album, Oil of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides, was released in 2018. Very little of SOPHIE’s musical work has been released since her death, except for a 2021 Jlin collaboration titled “JSLOIPNHIE” and a few other tracks she produced.
