Drummer Chris Adler has further opened up about his ouster from Lamb of God in 2019, discussing his “estranged” relationship with his brother Willie, the band’s guitarist, in a new interview.
Speaking with David E. Gehlke of Blabbermouth, Chris outlined some of the same points that he made in a previously published May interview, including his battle with the neurological condition musician’s dystonia that limited his ability to play the drums.
Deeper into the Blabbermouth conversation, the interviewer told Chris that “it was a surprise” to fans when the news of the drummer’s ousting broke in 2019.
“It was as big of a shock to me,” replied the drummer. “It was, ‘I don’t know how to make this work.’ I wasn’t given much of a choice. It was one of those e-mails: ‘Services no longer required.’ It took a while to dig out of that. I’m happy I did. It could have gone a different way. Today, I’m grateful and happy for where I am. Like I said, my home life is awesome, and I’m looking forward to doing some shows with these guys [in my new band Firstborne], having more fun and feeling a lot less pressure.”

When asked if he is still keeps in touch with his brother Willie, Chris said: “I guess the best way to put it is that I was sideswiped with the whole thing. I wish him all the best; I’m wishing them all the best, and I think about him all the time, but I would say we are estranged. Since that e-mail that I got, where he was not even willing to talk to me about it, we haven’t spoken.”
Chris added, “At this point, I’ve got to work through resentments and regrets and all that stuff. I’m happy where I’m at. I hope he’s happy where he is. Everything is cool with me.”
Meanwhile, Lamb of God moved on with Art Cruz behind the kit, and the band continues to tour and release albums at a steady clip. Frontman Randy Blythe and company have numerous gigs booked through the end of 2025, with tickets available here.
