Brandi Carlile played her final concert of the year at the Hollywood Bowl on Saturday night, and she was joined by a number of surprise guests including Joni Mitchell.
Mitchell appeared at the end of the show, sitting in with Mitchell for performances of “Shine,” “Ladies of the Canyon,” and “Circle Game.” It marked Mitchell’s third on-stage collaboration with Carlile, following her surprise appearance at Newport Folk Fest last year and her first publicly announced concert in 20 years at the Gorge this past summer.
Other guests included Annie Lennox, who performed her own song “Why” and Eurythmics’ “Love is a Stranger,” plus The Lover Speaks’ “No More ‘I Love You’s.’” Blake Mills, Allison Russell, and Lucius also made cameos during the concert.

Next month, Carlile will perform at the 2023 Rock and Roll Hall of Induction ceremony, during which Rage Against the Machine, Kate Bush, Willie Nelson, Sheryl Crow, Missy Elliott, and Chaka Khan will all be enshrined.
