Beyerdynamic, the renowned German audio brand with 100 years of experience, has been sold for approximately $141 million. The buyer is Cosonic Intelligent Technologies, a Shenzen-based Chinese OEM specialist.
This landmark deal was finalized on June 5, 2025 and marks the end of Beyerdynamic’s family ownership—now the brand will be integrated into a global manufacturing group. Founded in 1924 and headquartered in Heilbronn, Germany, Beyerdynamic built a strong reputation for its high-fidelity headphones, microphones, and conferencing systems.
The brand is celebrated among audiophiles for products like the DT 770 and T1 headphones, known for their comfort, durability, and sound quality. This acquisition transfers control of Beyerdynamic’s limited partnership and its general partner along with shareholder loans amounting to €14 million to Cosonic.
Cosonic Intelligent Technologies, established in 2013, is primarily an OEM manufacturer producing headphones and audio components for major brands including Philips, JBL, Beats, Huawei and more. The company is fully owned by Jiahe Intelligent Technology, a publicly listed Chinese electronics firm. The acquisition represents a strategic move by Cosonic to transition from a behind-the-scenes supplier to owning a premium audio brand with a global presence and proprietary technologies—including Beyerdynamic’s Tesla magnetic drivers and high-fidelity wireless systems.
The deal also includes Beyerdynamic’s subsidiaries in the United States, China, and India—further expanding Cosonic’s international footprint. Cosonic aims to leverage Beyerdynamic’s established sales channels in Europe, the United States, and China to boost profit margins and enter the consumer-facing audio market directly.
Reactions to the deal have been mixed, with investors viewing the valuation (14x Beyerdynamic’s 2024 net profits) as high for a niche audio company. Meanwhile, audiophiles online have reacted negatively to the news, calling the brand ‘Chi-Fi’d’ and expressing apprehension about a possible decline in quality similar to other brands who have been acquired.
This acquisition marks a significant turning point for Beyerdynamic from a family-owned stewardship to corporate ownership. The audio industry will be watching closely to see how this historic brand evolves under Cosonic’s direction.
