Salma Hayek Spoke About Being Typecast
During a newly released interview with GQ Hype, Hayek spoke about being typecast in her acting career for a long time. She said, “My entire life, I wanted to do comedy, and people wouldn’t give me comedies. I couldn’t land a role until I met Adam Sandler who put me in a comedy film (Grown Ups), but I was in my forties!”
Per Daily Mail, the A-list actress explained that the majority opinion of Hollywood’s elite was, “You’re sexy, so you’re not allowed to have a sense of humor…”. Not only are you not allowed to be smart, but you were not allowed to be funny in the 90s.”
Hayek spoke about how she felt sad about the restrictions others had placed on her, but she’s now “laughing” because of her wild success. She said, “I was sad at the time but now here I am doing every genre, in a time in my life where they told me I would have expired – that the last 20 years I would have been out of business.”
Salma Hayek Says She’s Now Appreciated For More Than Just Her Sexuality
Hayek’s GQ interview was accompanied by a beautiful shoot which was shot by famous photographer Ashley Olah. During the interview, the “Like A Boss” star also spoke about how she’s now in a place where her “sexuality isn’t the only thing that’s appreciated” by people around her anymore.
However, Hayek also explained that even if people still refused to look past her sexuality, she “wouldn’t care.” The “Once Upon A Time in Mexico” actress said it wouldn’t matter because she’s “built enough respect around me from the people that really matter that I feel seen beyond that.”
She Discussed The Nature Of Masculinity And How It Has Changed
Hayek married French billionaire businessman François-Henri Pinault in 2009, and they have a 15-year-old daughter, Valentina, together. During her interview, the “Desperado” star discussed the constantly changing “nature of masculinity” in the world.
Hayek said, “It’s an exciting time to be a woman but also to be a man. Confusion is always a great landscape for revolution and I think deep inside we put a lot of weight on men. The old thing is that they have to be successful and responsible financially for the family – that’s a lot.”
Salma Hayek Features In The Upcoming ‘Magic Mike’ Film
Hayek has been booked and busy in recent years and now features in the upcoming film, “Magic Mike’s Last Dance.” She plays the role of siren Maxandra Mendoza opposite stripper-turned-actor Channing Tatum.
The upcoming film is the third and final installment in Tatum’s “Magic Mike” trilogy and also the sequel to the 2015 film “Magic Mike XXL.” Hayek spoke about how the men in the film mostly talked about the “private pleasures of vanity.”
The “Hit man’s Wife’s Bodyguard” actress said to GQ, “They were talking about waxing parts of the body that I really didn’t want to hear about, but it was very refreshing. Before it would have been seen badly if they spent too much time on their bodies or were vain.”
Hayek also recently opened up about how intense it was working with Tatum in a lap dance scene that didn’t make the movie’s final cut. While speaking on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” the actress divulged that Tatum “nearly killed” her as she had her legs in the air for the raunchy lap dance, and wasn’t sure if she had on any underwear.
