Actress Phoebe Dynevor will not be returning for the third season of the Netflix drama “Bridgerton.”
Although she starred in the first season of the Netflix series as Daphne Bridgerton, the eldest Bridgerton daughter didn’t have much of a role in the series’ second season. Now, according to Phoebe herself, Daphne will be totally absent from season 3.
Phoebe Dynevor Reveals She Is ‘Sadly’ Not In ‘Bridgerton’ Season 3
In a recent interview with Screen Rant, the 27-year-old actress admitted that she will not be in season 3 of “Bridgerton.” When asked if there were “any exciting dynamics coming up for Daphne,” Phoebe revealed that she wouldn’t appear at all.
“Sadly not in season 3,” Phoebe replied, adding that Daphne will reappear “potentially in the future.” Fortunately, it sounds that Phoebe still has high hopes for the show’s third season to be a success, adding, “But, season 3, I’m just excited to watch as a viewer.”
In a separate interview with Variety, Phoebe said, “Well, I did my two seasons,” adding, “I’ve done what I wanted to do with that character and she had a great arc. If they ask me back in the future, who knows?”
Although the first season focused on Daphne Bridgerton’s romance with the Duke of Hastings, Simon Basset, played by Regé-Jean Page, Page wasn’t in the show’s second season at all and it doesn’t seem like he’ll appear in any future seasons.
The second season focused on the love story between Viscount Anthony Bridgerton, played by Jonathan Bailey. At the end of the season, he married Kate Sharma, who is played by Simone Ashley. Given that Anthony is still the head of the Bridgerton household, he and Kate are expected to be in future seasons of “Bridgerton” as they grow the Bridgerton family.
Season 3 Will Take A Departure From The Books
As fans of the series undoubtedly know by now, Benedict Bridgerton’s love story will not be explored in season 3. Season 3 will center on the love story between Colin Bridgerton, played by Luke Newton, and Penelope Featherington, played by Nicola Coughlan.
Last May, new showrunner Jess Brownwell told Variety, “Because we’ve been watching both of these actors on our screens since Season 1, we’ve already invested in them a little bit. We know who they are as people.”
“I feel like, especially in the last season, there are these moments of tension between them where it’s like, Colin walks up to the line of almost realizing that Penelope has feelings for him but doesn’t quite get there,” she added. “Instead of treading water on that dynamic, we wanted to push it into their season. It really felt like the perfect moment to tee it up.”
Last June, Nicola Coughlan took to Instagram to tease a photo of her season 1 hairstyle, asking “Bridgerton” fans “But honestly like would you marry me with this sexy hair and the one really long weird bit?”
“Bridgerton Season One Throwback,” she wrote in the caption. “I used to lovingly call this look ‘The Hair Willy.’ Suffice to say she’s ready for the S3 glow up.”
Only a month before, Nicola appeared on E! News Daily Pop to talk about the upcoming season. When asked if she was ready for her intimate scenes, the “Harlots” actress replied, “I’m gonna have to be!”
Although Nicola admitted that it was “terrifying” to become the romantic lead of the season, she admitted that she’s “known for a really long time” that Penelope’s friendship with Colin would eventually become more serious. Coughlan also confessed that she first learned that she would be the season 3 lead “like two weeks into filming season two, so I had a lot of time to adjust to it.”
Only a few days before the interview, Nicola had confirmed that Penelope would be the romantic lead of the next season at Netflix’s FYSEE Space’s opening night ATAS panel.
“Like Lady Whistledown, I have been keeping a secret for quite some time and I can confirm to you all that season 3 is Colin and Penelope’s love story,” Coughlan revealed. “I have kept that secret since two weeks into season 2. This is the first time I am saying it here.”
She told Daily Pop that she was “scared” to make the announcement, saying, “But then, [Sunday] night, when they were like, ‘The news is coming out. You can talk about it,’ I was like, ‘I don’t want to. I’m too scared.’ When I say it out [loud], it makes it real.”
