The folks of England can carry their heads just a bit higher this year because they’ve just taken home one of the most prestigious titles in Europe. And no, I’m not talking about the Eurovision Song Contest Finals which are coming up in two weeks because the UK is going to get demolished.
I’m referring to, of course, the European Seagull Screeching Contest that was held in the town of De Panne on the Belgian coast where a 9-year-old British boy from Chesterfield in Derbyshire traveled across the North Sea dressed as a gull to out-screech the competition.
Cooper Wallace crushed the field. He scored an impressive 92 out of a total possible 100 points in the 4th annual competition. During his performance, Cooper even lunged at a “fake cone of chips made from foam” while dressed in his full seagull costume, according to the video below’s description:
Officially known as the EC Gull Screeching competition, the event has now seen four years of fierce competition. There are categories for Junior, Adult, and Colony.
The EC Gull Screeching Competition is an event meant to connect gull enthusiasts from all around the world and it has most certainly done that as I’ve seen this story picked up by everyone in the British media today, and justifiably so because their boy won the top honors in the Junior competition.
Here is a brief look at what the senior portion of the competition looks like. I don’t speak Flemish but someone does yell ‘Make Seagulls Sexy Again’ before everyone cheers so it’s evident they’re having a grand old time:
I know that as Americans we have to let the Europeans win some things from time to time but I can’t shake the feeling that someone from the US of A needs to cross the pond and take down the Seagull Screeching Contest title in 2025.
