WE all want to age well but looking after your body can be a challenge, especially if you work long hours and struggle to get to the gym.
One woman is proving that it is never too late to transform yourself though, having become a muscle-bound bodybuilder – in her sixties.
Like many older women, Renee Landers had struggled with health issues as she aged.
Though she had lived an active lifestyle, the Texas gran had never dreamt of lifting weights until an injury changed everything.
Over a decade ago, the then-58-year-old had to undergo a painful spinal fusion and turned to the sport as she tried to recover which is when she discovered her love of weightlifting.
As she rebuilt her strength, the workouts had a profound effect on Renee who began to focus more on nutrition and even set her the ambitious goal of entering her first bikini competition at 69.
Recalling how much her life has changed since then, she told her followers on Facebook: “I have a wonderful trainer who kept encouraging me to compete, but I was too scared.
“It took several years to get the courage to put on a sparkly bikini and get on a stage in front of a bunch of strangers… but, after I did that first show, I knew I had found my people.
“I have not looked back, and have been having the time of my life.”
Her results have to be seen to be believed with the fitness fanatic sharing endless clips of her gruelling workouts and competition swimsuits on social media.
Now 72, the older woman even took part in the Arnold Classic competition and saw her idol Arnold Schwarzenegger backstage.
Her story has gained huge attention with Reene regularly going viral on Tiktok and Instagram, where she has amassed over 53,000 followers.
Whilst she has plenty of admirers online and loves how she looks, her posts are just about showing off her svelte frame.
Instead, the seventy-something wants to use her platforms to encourage other older women to stay as physically strong as they can.
She even regularly uploads motivational posts, telling fans: “Remember, there are 2 people in our brains… Pick one! You have a choice!
“My pictures show the contrast… when I was younger, it was harder to see my awesomeness…… Even now, I have my doubts… That’s why I keep choosing….AWESOME!”
Having more than proved that age is just a number, the bodybuilder refuses to accept that she is ‘old’ and even joked that she’d banned the word in her house on Tiktok.
In a post to celebrate her 72th birthday, she also revealed that she felt like she was finally ‘living her best life’.
She said: “I am embracing the person I have evolved into…I don’t let my birth year define me! There was DEFINITELY a time I didn’t feel good so exposed….I am obviously over that…and glad!”
We can only hope that we look this good at 72!
