The Dandy Warhols have unveiled a new single called “Danzig With Myself,” featuring a guest spot by Pixies frontman Black Francis. The song appears on the alt-rock band’s upcoming album, ROCKMAKER, out March 15th.
Musically, the song has a Pixies vibe, with Francis contributing a fuzzed-out guitar track. Of the song’s title, Dandy Warhol singer Courtney Taylor-Taylor explained, “It started with a riff that either sounded like Misfits or Danzig and then got slowed down.”
He continued, “Over time, it became the working title that was just too good to replace.”
Taylor-Taylor delivers the verses in a deep sing-talk vocal, although not quite as deep as Glenn Danzig, and the dark lyrics serve as another tribute of sorts to the horror-punk icon. The tune starts out with the lines, “Some days it’s just so obvious/ Some days insidious/ But half the people alive today are/ Are fucking idiots.”
In support of the new album, the Dandy Warhols will embark on a US tour. The brief jaunt kicks off March 4th in Washington, D.C., and runs through a March 19th gig in Los Angeles. Tickets are available here.
