Ribbon Skirt, the rising Anishinaabe post-punk outfit, has shared their new single ‘Earth Eater’ off their forthcoming album Bite Down, due for release on April 11 via Mint Records.
‘Earth Eater’ brings the intensity of Ribbon Skirt’s sound to new heights. The track builds through layers of guitar and distortion, culminating in a towering crescendo that swallows the soundscape. Buswa’s hypnotic chant anchors the chaos, making the song a powerful invocation and defiant call.
‘Earth Eater’ comes with a music video that is as haunting and personal as the track itself. Created from family camcorder footage, it blurs the lines between past and present, memory and mythology. The visuals depict fragments of Buswa’s own life—highlighting painful moments like a car crash, childhood trauma, and recurring nightmares. The climax of the video, however, is deeply poignant: a reunion between Buswa’s great-grandmother and her twin uncles, taken from their family during the Sixties Scoop. This reunion, captured in grainy footage, stands as a testament to survival and the enduring need to move forward.
‘Earth Eater’ is out now on your favorite DSP.
