Manchester-based psych-punk five-piece Pomona has dropped their latest single, ‘Double Yellows,’ offering a bold and emotionally charged glimpse into their upcoming debut EP, set for release in September 2025.
Following the May release of the wiry, raucous ‘Saga,’ ‘Double Yellows’ finds Pomona leaning further into their distinct blend of new wave urgency and melodic punk grit. The band channels frustration into fuel, building from simmering tension to blistering release across a song that radiates both angst and defiance. While musically rooted in the chaos of punk and the clarity of indie rock, the track’s theme of unrewarded effort gives it a relatable emotional backbone. It’s a compelling step forward from a band already known for their dynamic live shows and genre-straddling sound.
Joe Boxall, lead singer, says of ‘Double Yellows’:
“At its core, ‘Double Yellows’ is about unreciprocated effort: raising your voice and hearing no sound back, staking your claim and realising no one’s listening. The track paints a picture of someone trapped in a loop of persistence, trying, failing, rebuilding, while carrying the weight of unacknowledged sacrifice. There’s a quiet defiance in that cycle, though. The repeated line “I want to make you proud” isn’t just desperate, it’s resilient.”
For fans of high-energy indie rock with something to say, Pomona’s ‘Double Yellows’ delivers a vital dose of catharsis.
