Pink nearly died from drug overdose weeks before record deal

So what, she’s still a rock star.

In a “60 Minutes” interview that aired Sunday, Alecia Moore Hart, a k a Pink, 44, revealed that before she was a global superstar known for singing upside down and performing aerial stunts at sold-out stadiums, she nearly died from a drug overdose, just weeks before signing a record deal.

The Grammy winner, who has two kids — son Jameson, 6, and daughter Willow, 12, with her motocross star husband Carey Hart, 48 — described the incident.

She said that during Thanksgiving of 1995, she went to a rave where she took “ecstasy, angel dust, crystal. All kinds of things … Then I was out. Done. Too much.”

When she was asked whether she “almost died,” Pink replied, “Yeah.”

She elaborated that she had dropped out of high school, and had a volatile relationship with her parents, with one fight with her mom even becoming physical, which is one of her “regrets” in life. She described herself as, “Off the rails. I was a punk. I had a mouth. I had a chip on my shoulder. Basically I grew up in a house where every day my parents were screaming at each other, throwing things. They hated each other. I got into drugs. I was selling drugs.”

Pink grew up in Pennsylvania, and her parents divorced when she was young.

Mere weeks after her overdose, Pink “signed to LaFace Records” with the girl group Choice as “token white girls on a black label,” she said.

She later found mainstream success after she launched her solo career in 2000, and her star has only risen since.

When asked why she’s willing to be so forthcoming about dark incidents from her past, when other artists like to cultivate an air of mystery around their personal issues, Pink replied, “If I’m a mystery to you, how can I expect you to connect with me? I want you to know me.”

She claims that she never took drugs again after that harrowing 1995 experience.

“That’s the thing with me. Once I make up my mind, I’m done.” She said that the chip on her shoulder that made her a “really difficult kid” has helped her succeed and have longevity in the cutthroat music industry.

“I never got a record deal because I was cute,” Pink said. “I got a record deal because I was fiery, I had a lot to say and I had a voice.”

Pink also said that she knows what people think of her — because she’s muscular, and has short hair.

“I’m possibly a dude. Definitely a lesbian,” she said. “If you’re outspoken and don’t bend to societal norms, then you’re scary and dangerous,” she said. “The reality is, I’m the goofiest, most fun loving person….that will possibly kick your ass, if I have to.”
