Daft Punk‘s interstellar legacy shined bright once again at a rare, one-night-only event in Los Angeles.
Following the debut Los Angeles screening of Daft Punk’s iconic anime film, Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem, a panel took place featuring two pivotal figures of the duo’s storied career: former manager Pedro Winter and Creative Director Cédric Hervet.
Presented by IHEARTCOMIX, it was a particularly special reunion considering both Winter and Hervet were instrumental in shaping Daft Punk’s legacy, from their pioneering electronic music to their cutting-edge visual projects. They reflected on the development of Interstella 5555 and provided insights into some of the creative genius that defined the robots’ legacy.
Originally released in May 2003 as a visual companion to Daft Punk’s sophomore album Discovery, Interstella 5555 was co-created with Hervet, director Kazuhisa Takenouchi and the late anime legend Leiji Matsumoto.
The September 30th screening at the United Theater kicked off IHEARTCOMIX’s 20th anniversary celebrations and marked a rare opportunity to view the film in theaters. This version has been remastered in 4K and is the only way to hear Discovery in Dolby 5.1 Surround, according to a press release shared with EDM.com.
Following the panel with Winter and Hervet, the night closed with an afterparty featuring DJ sets from Thee Mike B and Busy P b2b The Dare. Madeon and Reggie Watts attended the party, among other renowned creatives.
