Maren Morris has partnered with the prepaid wireless carrier Visible to cover Billy Idol’s “Dancing with Myself” for Singles Awareness Day. Watch the country star take on the new wave hit below.
In the video accompanying the release, Morris heads over to the beloved Nashville record store Grimey’s, where she performs “Dancing with Myself” to an empty space.
“Dancing with Myself” was first released by Idol’s punk band Gen X in 1980 and landed at No. 62 on the UK Singles Chart. He remixed it as a solo track for the US the following year.
“Recording and filming the music video for my cover of Billy Idol’s ‘Dancing with Myself’ was such a dream come true and I hope fans can dance along while also knowing it’s okay to be in your feelings,” Morris said in a statement. “I am so excited to partner with a company like Visible who prioritizes self-empowerment and independence for their mobile plans.”
In a behind-the-scenes video, Morris added, “‘Dancing with Myself’ to me is about enjoying the pleasure of your own company and celebrating that and not stigmatizing it, and being righteously selfish. I think that more people should do that; I think you exist better to your loved ones when you prioritize yourself.” Cheers to that.
Morris herself is recently single after reaching a divorce settlement with fellow country singer Ryan Hurd this past January.
The cover of “Dancing with Myself” marks Morris’ first new solo music since her 2023 EP, The Bridge. The artist’s latest full-length, Humble Quest, was released in 2022; revisit her interview with Consequence about the album.
