Lauran Hibberd has relayed an unfortunate dating story on her new single, ‘2nd prettiest girl (in the world)’ – but luckily for us, she at least knows how to turn that into a good tune.
Lauran’s tongue-in-cheek single is the latest cut from her forthcoming second LP ‘Girlfriend Material’, which arrives March 22 via Virgin Music.
Previous album releases have included pop-punk banger ‘Honda Civic’, the more personal, introspective ‘I Suck At Grieving’ and “the soundtrack to a great day”, ‘Mary’.

Explaining what the new track’s specifically about, Lauran has shared:
“An unfortunate true story does fortunately always start a good song. I went on a date last year, and was told I was the second prettiest girl in the room.
“I actually said thank you (I need help). I started writing this song the next day.
“It became my personality. This has been one of my personal favourites on my new album ‘girlfriend material’ for ages, it’s torturously relatable.”
In the previous announcement for the full-length project, Lauran further explained:
“Welcome to ‘Girlfriend Material’, here you will find the 12 stage instruction manual on how to make the perfect girlfriend in under an hour. Listen more than once to ensure perfection.”
“Making this record came oddly naturally, it felt like it was supposed to come out of me and I’ve never felt so attached to a body of songs like this.”
Its release comes in the wake of a recent run of live shows alongside Hobo Johnson which Lauran treated fans with at the start of the year.
