When pioneering legends of electronic music connect in the studio, good things are bound to happen.
One such team-up of titans that’s shaping up to command attention in 2024 is the forthcoming effort from Kraftwerk’s Wolfgang Flür, titled Time. Despite being a notable album release in its own right, a new interview with Flür has revealed Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangalter is also involved in bringing the project to fruition.
Known for his role as the world’s first electronic drummer, Flür is a formative figure in Kraftwerk’s original lineup. His upcoming album Time is anticipated to be a fusion of generational styles, showcasing contributions from influential artists such as New Order’s Peter Hook and Detroit techno legend Juan Atkins, along with Bangalter.
“My album Time will be released in September,” Flür told Swiss-German media outlet Blick in an excerpt we’ve translated to English. “Great people are involved: Peter Hook from New Order, Thomas Bangalter from Daft Punk, U96 from Hamburg—and Juan Atkins from Detroit.”
The revelation follows a handful of recent post-Daft Punk ventures from Bangalter, who released his classical album Mythologies following the robots’ unexpected split in 2021. He was recently revealed as the composer of the soundtrack for the French comedy film Daaaaaali!.
Meanwhile, Kraftwerk recently announced a rare residency at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. The series is positioned to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the group’s influential album Autobahn.
Wolfgang Flür’s Time is expected to release in September 2024.
