While Brent Hinds is no longer a member of Mastodon, it appears that he’s been plenty active with his other projects. The singer-guitarist just announced a show featuring three of his bands.
Billed as “a whole evening of Bhinds,” the gig is set for April 18th at the Garden Club at Wild Heaven West End in Atlanta. Hinds will be performing with headlining punk-blues act West End Motel, his own psychobilly project Fiend Without a Face, plus another band of his, Dirty B & the Boys.
In fact, Hinds has already been sharpening his onstage chops, as Fiend Without a Face played the 529 club in Atlanta this past Friday (March 21st). The gig marked Hinds’ first show since his departure from Mastodon.

Meanwhile, Mastodon are moving forward without their long-time guitarist. YouTube guitar wizard Ben Eller filled in admirably for Mastodon’s first post-Hinds show — an appearance at Tool’s destination festival — though it’s uncertain whether Eller will continue as the replacement. Mastodon do have a busy itinerary on the horizon, including a major US co-headlining tour with Coheed and Cambria (get tickets here).
“Yeah, we haven’t really decided how we’re gonna go about that yet,” said Mastodon’s Bill Kelliher in a recent interview with YouTube channel Radical Metal. “We’re just sort of taking it easy. No update. Nothing that I can really share with you at this moment.”
Kelliher continued, “We had Ben Eller, who’s a great friend, and he filled in for this show. And we’ve got the Coheed tour coming up. So, we’ll figure it out. We’ve got a lot of requests and stuff like that. But it’s really hard shoes to fill, obviously. Nobody plays like Brent. He’s a very, extremely unique player. So it’s not gonna be an easy task. We’re all hopeful and we’re gonna figure it out. So that’s really all I have to say about it.”
