Eddie Sutton is a punk metal vocalist and co-founder of crossover thrash band Leeway.

The band, which was founded alongside guitarist AJ Novello, was formed in Astoria, New York in 1984.

Eddie was a big part of the force behind the success of the group’s hit heavy metal albums Born To Expire in 1988 and Desperate Measures in 1991.

Furthermore, Eddie fronted the lesser-known metalcore group called Merauder, which debuted in 1998.

Although neither of his bands became a household name, their music became influential in the crossover thrash scene.

Crossover thrash is a fusion niche genre of thrash metal and hardcore punk music.

After battling with cancer, the former frontman and vocalist died on April 19, 2024, at the age of 59.

Despite his health battles, Eddie was scheduled to show at the upcoming This Is Hardcore Festival in August 2024, in Philadelphia.

However, he entered hospice care at the end of March 2024 due to complications from cancer.

In an Instagram post made on April 1, 2024, saying: “I’ve now been in hospice care for about 6 days and I’m still trying to prove the professionals wrong and try to keep hope alive.”
