Dropkick Murphys have announced a new album, For the People, arriving July 4th. The video for the politically charged lead single “Who’ll Stand with Us?” can be streamed now.
The searing punk tune features prominent bagpipes and commanding vocals that declare, “We’ve been robbed of our freedom.” It’s a direct rallying cry, echoing singer Ken Casey’s recent sentiment that America is embroiled in “a class war.”

As stated in a press release, “‘Who’ll Stand With Us?,’ the album’s first single, is a call for unity, a return to sanity, and a look at what – and who – is really dividing us. It gets straight to the point: When the billionaires and broligarchs get done neutering society, what’s left for the rest of us? The song aims to frame class warfare for what it is. And, like all Dropkick Murphys songs, it empowers listeners to take action.”

Regarding the album’s themes, Casey himself declared, “We’ve always had the same message and haven’t been afraid to speak out about what’s important to us. But for me now, I think about my kids’ future, and the next generation. That could be anything from speaking out against injustices, or just simply making sure you take the time to tell the people close to you how important they are to you.”
Among the LP’s other tracks is the album-closer “One Last Goodbye” (featuring The Scratch), a tribute to Shane MacGowan, late singer of The Pogues, as well as “The Vultures Circle High,” featuring longtime Dropkick Murphys co-vocalist Al Barr, who’s been on leave from the band tending to family matters.
“Al is still taking time off for family,” said Casey, “but he’s still part of our family, so we thought it would be nice to have his voice on this record.”
Other guests on the album include Billy Bragg and The Mary Wallopers. Check out the video for “Who’ll Stand With Us?” below, as well as For the People‘s artwork and tracklist.
Dropkick Murphys will perform at the “Unite for Veterans, Unite for America” rally this Friday (June 6th) at the National Mall in Washington, D.C. In July, they’ll embark on a co-headlining US tour with Bad Religion (pick up tickets here).
