The single exemplifies the band’s signature blend of raw energy and provocative themes, serving as a precursor to their anticipated sophomore effort.

‘Four’ stands out not just for its striking sound but also for its method of creation. Vocalist C.A. Francis explains, “It’s one of the few songs we’ve ever done that was finished before we started playing it. We first jammed on it together in the back of a cafe in Worcester on the way back from a show up north. The place has a tiny room specially made for bands to practice in.” This anecdote captures the spontaneity and grit that defines DITZ’s creative process.

Lyrically, the track delves into the commodification of queer culture, with Francis critiquing the performative inclusivity of corporations. They question whether icons like Divine, Alan Turing, or James Baldwin would align with today’s corporate-driven narratives of acceptance, remarking, “It just doesn’t sound like the kind of acceptance that I think is acceptable.” This blend of personal reflection and political commentary elevates the single beyond its abrasive instrumentation, making it a layered addition to DITZ’s catalog.

Never Exhale promises to build on the band’s reputation for unapologetic intensity and thoughtful lyricism. With their upcoming UK/EU tour, DITZ are poised to reinforce their status as one of today’s most compelling post-punk acts.

‘Four’ is available to stream now. Never Exhale releases January 24, 2025.
