Cloud Nothings are back with a new song, “Final Summer,” in celebration of their signing to Pure Noise Records. Stream it below.
“Final Summer” opens with a brief splash of synths before giving way to a hooky guitar riff, while the track’s lyrics feature themes of identity and self-growth. “I have some thoughts, I have some dreams,” guitarist/vocalist Dylan Baldi sings on the chorus. “But I need to be happy with what I’ve got for me.”
In a statement, Baldi explained that the song is about “reconciling past versions of myself with the self I see when I look in the mirror every morning, always trying to learn more and using that knowledge to take the leaps of faith that are necessary to try new things and continue living and growing. Cloud Nothings has been around for 14 years now, and we wouldn’t have been able to power through the many ups and downs of those years without taking the chorus of ‘Final Summer’ to heart.”
He continued by expressing Cloud Nothings’ excitement for working with Pure Noise. “It’s exciting to be on a label with so many great punk bands, and it’s going to be inspiring to see our music standing alongside the myriad sick records that Pure Noise has released,” Baldi said.
Next week, Cloud Nothings will kick off their tour with The Menzingers, Rodeo Boys, and Microwave. See all the dates here, and grab your tickets here.
Currently made up of Baldi, drummer Jayson Gerycz, and bassist Chris Brown, the band’s last album was 2021’s The Shadow I Remember.
