Avril Lavigne has been appointed to the Order of Canada, earning recognition for her contributions to culture and communities in Canada and around the world.
The appointment was announced on Friday, June 28th, via the website of Canadian Governor General Mary Simon. “Avril Lavigne is one of the best-selling female artists of all time,” the proclamation read. “With over 50 million albums sold worldwide, she paved the way for female-driven punk-rock music and continues to do so today.”

Continuing, Simon praised Lavigne not only for her artistry, but for her altruism as well. “Generous with her time, she supports individuals with serious illnesses, disabilities, and Lyme disease through the Avril Lavigne Foundation. A global ambassador for Special Olympics, she promotes inclusion and helps end the stigma around intellectual disabilities.”
All this comes as Lavigne is on the road for her 2024 “The Greatest Hits” tour, which launched this past May and will run through the end of September. This past weekend, she peformed at Glastonbury 2024. She’ll return to North America in August for a final jaunt of shows with support from Simple Plan. Grab tickets here.
