Adam Lewis, founding member and bassist of the pop-punk band Fenix TX, has died at the age of 45.
Lewis’ passing was confirmed on Fenix TX’s official Instagram account. In a post, they revealed that he had died of pancreatic cancer on Wednesday, June 5th. The artist was diagnosed with the disease in 2021.
“We are heartbroken. There are no words that will do justice to the life Adam lived,” the band said. “We will do our best to honor his final wishes and make him proud. We love you Adam Lewis.”
Fenix TX has set up a memorial fund via GoFundMe as a means of raising money for Lewis’ family.
Born May 15th, 1979 in Texas, Lewis grew up in the Houston area, where he would ultimately meet many of his future bandmates. After dropping their 1997 debut album under the name Riverfenix, the band rebranded as Fenix TX and moved to Southern California. They’d subsequently go on to release their self-titled sophomore effort in 1999 and their final studio album, Lechuza, in 2001.
Despite their brief tenure in the studio, Lewis and the band achieved several notable hits, including “All My Fault” and “Threesome.” During this time, they performed with the likes of Blink-182, Bad Religion, New Found Glory, and Good Charlotte, among others.
Following Fenix TX’s initial breakup in 2002, Lewis formed the bands Subrosa and Ultra Violent Lights. He also embraced his culinary side, becoming a personal chef for celebrity clients, as well as his business side, founding a construction company.
Fenix TX performed at the Las Vegas festival When We Were Young in 2023. A full reunion tour with several longtime and original members was reportedly in the works, including select dates set for September 2024, but in the wake of Lewis’ death, the band has canceled such plans.
In 2019, Consequence named Fenix TX one of the 100 Best Pop Punk Bands.
