A YouTuber known for exposing scandals in the fighting game and Smash Bros communities is recieving death threats for his speech at Melee pro Hax$’s funeral.
Melee pro Abdulaziz ‘Hax$’ Al-Yami died at 30-years-old, months after jumping in front of a moving train following his ban from competing at tournaments.
Hax$ was indefinitely banned from the majority of Smash tournaments in 2021 due to a series of videos he made criticizing fellow pro player Leffen. Despite numerous attempts, was never unbanned.
On April 5, Smash pros Jason ‘Mew2King’ Zimmerman and Juan ‘Hungrybox’ Debiedma were among those at Hax$’s funeral and gave passionate speeches. However, one YouTuber, Technicals, has some people in the community furious with the content of his speech.
YouTuber receives death threats over speech at Hax$’s funeral
Hax$’s funeral included many homages to his Melee career, including Smash setups in the venue and attendees wearing red Addidas pants – a tribute to one of his tournament runs.
During the service, many players and fans of Hax$ went up and shared their experiences with him and used his death as motivation to improve the scene.
“I vow to you – to his family, to his friends – that I’ll do whatever I can to at least make the community a better place so we never have to suffer a loss of someone like Hax ever again,” Hbox said.
“We can’t let this happen again, man,” echoed Mew2King.
Meanwhile, Technicals, who was invited by Hax$’s mother to speak, gave a speech filled with jokes while calling out those who banned the pro from tournaments.
He further revealed, in tweets he’d posted after the speech, that Hax$ hated lobbying for his unban from organizers he considered “corrupt and cruel.”
“I’m here because Smash killed my friend,” Technicals added. “And while I pray Aziz rests in peace, I’m making it my job that they [the TOs who banned him] don’t.”
Although the speech was met with applause in the venue, users online made threats against Technicals.
“Technicals gotta die, bro,” one tweeted.
“Adding hijacking a funeral to the long list of reasons why it’s on sight for Technicals,” another chimed in.
“Technicals speaking at Hax’s funeral about the Smash community being the reason he’s dead is pretty low and disgusting,” another remarked. “Honestly, hope someone beats his ass.”
Despite these threats, Technicals is planning a huge YouTube video about Hax$, even changing the video he was currently making to focus on the Hax$ scandal.
