Popular urban explorers Sam & Colby, along with travel blogger Drew Binsky, sparked panic after a scheduled tweet was published claiming they were lost in Paris’s catacombs.
Sam & Colby are a YouTube duo best known for their ‘ghost hunting’ videos and uploads exploring allegedly ‘haunted’ and abandoned locales.
In May 2025, the two influencers linked up with prominent travel vlogger Drew Binsky to explore one of the world’s most notoriously creepy locales — the catacombs beneath Paris, France.
The catacombs are a series of mass graves holding the remains of over six million Parisians. They were first dug in the late 1700s to prevent the overflow of above-ground cemeteries and have since become a popular tourist destination for thrill-seekers.
The Catacombs beneath Paris, France span more than 300 kilometers and are notoriously easy to get lost in without a tour guide.
Beyond being merely spooky, the catacombs can also be extremely dangerous, spanning an estimated 300 kilometers in a series of pitch-dark tunnels. Only 200 km is open to the public for tours, though. It’s easy to get lost in the maze of bones beneath the city, which is why it’s always recommended to follow a tour guide.
YouTube stars rescued after getting lost in Paris Catacombs
It seems that Sam, Colby and Drew had a real-life ‘As Above, So Below‘ situation, as their official X account published a pre-scheduled tweet claiming they’d gotten lost in the catacombs.
“Hey guys, this is a scheduled tweet that means we have been underground in the Paris Catacombs for much longer than anticipated, meaning we can’t find our way out,” the post read.
“We have official people looking for us, but if you don’t hear from us within 6 more hours, send help.”
Two hours later, the group uploaded a photo standing outside in dirty gear, appearing haggard and somewhat shell-shocked.
“We made it! Got lost for a while, but everyone’s alright,” they captioned the photo.
Responses to the post were a mixture of relief and skepticism, with some commenters in disbelief that the explorers had actually gotten lost.
Sam & Colby aren’t the first folks to lose their way in the catacombs, as a number of visitors have had similar experiences in the maze of human bones. However, only one death has been recorded as a result of someone getting lost there — hospital worker Philibert Aspairt, who went missing in 1793 and whose body was discovered in the catacombs 11 years later.
They aren’t the first YouTubers to have explored the catacombs, by far; in fact, YouTube king PewDiePie famously visited the mass graves in 2014 in partnership with horror film ‘As Above, So Below,’ which follows the terrifying misadventures of urban explorers whose trip to the catacombs goes horribly wrong.
