YouTube confirms massive iPhone video issue & promise fix

After reports of “lower than usual” video quality from iPhone users, YouTube has responded with plans to fix it.

YouTube has been the largest video platform for the last decade and has become the home of some of the internet’s biggest influencers.

Users have demanded that YouTube take action against inappropriate ads, and Google has continued to push its subscription service after reports of 60-second unskippable ads back in January.

On Thursday, March 20, YouTube responded to reports of “lower than usual” video quality from iPhone users with a plan to fix the issue.

YouTube plans to fix iPhone quality issue

Complaints about iOS video quality made way around social media throughout March, with dozens of posts made about the issue on X.

“Hey YouTube my videos on iOS are starting at like 144p for 20 to 30 seconds, then increasing quality. Huge pain. I pay for premium. Sounds like a lot of people are having this issue,” commented one user.

YouTube has since confirmed the issue in a post on its support page, revealing that they are “actively looking into it.”

“Hi Everyone, We’re aware some of you are experiencing lower-than-usual video quality when trying to watch Videos and Shorts,” they said.

“Here’s what you might be seeing: YouTube streaming at 144p or 360p despite a strong internet connection, Buffering when changing to higher quality, Video quality could be impacted on IOS mobile, desktop, or Smart TV. Rest assured, we’re actively looking into this!

“We’ll update this thread with new information as soon as it becomes available. Thanks for your patience!”

This issue comes as YouTube continues to push back against the use of browser plugins that block ads across the platform as a way to push its YouTube Premium subscription.

However, users have repeatedly taken to Reddit to report seeing ads on the site despite paying for the service.
