In our latest deep-dive into the characters of Marvel Comics, we explore X-23, a.k.a. Laura Kinney. In this piece, we’ll explore X-23’s live-action appearances in Logan and Deadpool & Wolverine. You can check out the full series here.
X-23 in Logan and the Fox X-Men Universe
James Mangold’s 2017 film Logan was the first live-action appearance of X-23. In the film, an 11-year-old Dafne Keen portrayed her. Her origin story is roughly the same as in the comics, with some changes to apply to the Fox X-Men film universe. In the films, the project is not just interested in cloning Logan, as other test subject children are created from mutant DNA. Possibly even some X-Men. A Mexican nurse smuggled her out of the facility and raised her. That’s why her default language is Spanish in the films.
Who Plays X-23 in the Live-Action Movies
Dafne Keen plays X-23, a.k.a. Laura Kinney, in both Logan and Deadpool & Wolverine
X-23 in Deadpool & Wolverine
Thanks to the final trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine, we know that, as mentioned, Dafne Keen returns as Laura Kinney/X-23. Now, she’s a young woman in her late teens/early 20s. Is this the same Laura from Logan, all grown up? Or is this a variant of Laura from another timeline? Our guess is it’s the same Laura from Logan, by the way she talks about her version of Wolverine compared to the one in Deadpool & Wolverine. We’ll find out for sure on July 26, when Deadpool & Wolverine hits theaters.
