Fans couldn’t wait to see WWE’s highly-anticipated Smackdown when it aired live on Netflix from Bologna, Italy on Friday, March 21. But, sadly, coverage of the event was interrupted during Zelina Vega’s match with Piper Niven due to unforeseen circumstances.
Vega left the LWO (Latino World Order) and was moved to the WWE SmackDown roster through the transfer window, as announced on the January 27th episode of WWE RAW. Following that news, Vega made her first in-ring appearance in almost a year, but immediately suffered some difficulties with her new outfit.
During the match, Vega’s top appeared to slip on two separate occasions, including as she went for a 619–Rey Mysterio’s signature move, which is named after the area code for San Diego–leading to WWE cutting to a black feed.
Having missed some of the action, viewers immediately noticed, comparing it to a similar incident involving WWE women’s champion Tiffany Stratton on another episode of Smackdown. On the US broadcast, which was on a delay, no black screen was required as it was completely edited out because of different camera angles being used.
Sadly, Vega ended up losing the match after Niven secured the victory with a brutal crossbody following interference from Chelsea Green and Alba Fyre. While she didn’t address the wardrobe malfunction directly, Vega did take to Instagram to reveal the injuries she suffered at the hands of the three women she lost against.
“Needed three b***hes to beat me.. That’s craaazy,” Vega wrote on top of a close-up selfie on her story. “This is just the beginning. It ain’t over till Zelina Vega says it’s over.”
Despite her struggles this time around, fans are confident that Zelina will bounce back and win her next match. Vega has an impressive resume as a former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion, and the inaugural winner of the Queen’s Crown tournament.
