A 19-year-old woman was struck by lightning while in her home because he was busy scrolling on Instagram, and she is “lucky” to be alive.
Getting struck by lightning is a fear that a lot of people have, despite the fact that it is a pretty rare phenomenon. It’s even rarer if you’re inside a house though, given you’re meant to be protected from the weather.
Well, 19-year-old Lisa Henderson may have thought the same thing, but it happened to her. The Russellville, Alabama native had been sat scrolling through Instagram with her phone on charge when her house was struck by lightning.
“I heard the lightning strike, and then I heard a loud pop, and all I heard was ringing in my ear,” Henderson told WHNT News 19. “I felt like stinging and stuff from my fingers to here. Feels like I stuck a fork in a light socket, after that I couldn’t comprehend things, and I started crying for 5 minutes.”

Henderson’s fiancé called 911, and she was rushed to a local hospital in an ambulance. However, the 19-year-old has no real remembrance of the ride, and struggled to recall her name to paramedics.
She was released from the hospital a short while later, with nurses noting she was “lucky” to be alive as the electric current didn’t reach her heart.
Henderson noted that she threw her phone away during the strike. “If I would’ve kept it, I could’ve been electrocuted even more than I was,” she added.
Henderson had been on Instagram during the strike.
This, however, is not the first time she has been struck by lightning. The 19-year-old noted that it had happened previously when she was a child as well.
She has posted about the incident on TikTok, poking fun about the fact that she has been on the news retelling her story. However, the post hasn’t gone viral and has, in fact, gotten less than 200 views.
