For the first time, every film fan’s favorite streamer and arthouse distributer MUBI is throwing a party in Chicago. Embodying MUBI’s ethos of culture, curation, and the love of cinema, MUBI Fest Chicago 2024 is set to bring a series of music-focused flicks, insightful live conversations, and happy hours to the Windy City on August 17th and 18th. The best part? You can win tickets!
Day one (Friday, August 17th) boasts a series of screenings that each explore the vital role music has played throughout film history. At both the Gene Siskel Film Center and the Music Box Theatre, attendees can catch The Last Days of Disco, Nashville (4K Restoration), and the Chicago premiere of My First Film, among many other pictures. The day also features a live taping of the MUBI Podcast with special guests Thrill Jockey, the legendary Chicago-based record label, as well as a free (!!) happy hour. (Note: Each showing is ticked individually. See showtimes and grab seats here.)
Day two ups the ante by fully doubling down on the intersection of movies and music. Hosted at The Salt Shed, MUBI Fest will screen the David Bowie-starring Labyrinth — and that’s not all, as art-pop darlings U.S. Girls are set to join in on the fun. U.S. Girls will kick off the night with a live performance, which will then be followed by a Q&A featuring Jessica Hopper and U.S. Girls’ Meg Remy. Then, after the Labyrinth screening, DJ Lulu will host a an after party in the Salt Shed lobby.
